The Importance of Personal Statements

College application essays and personal statements are crucial components of college applications. They are a significant source of information for admission officers to learn “who you are” and identify whether you are the “right fit” for their institutions.

*

Identify Your Strengths & Learn to Effectively Present Yourself

In Pathways at USC, students not only gain a better understanding of “who they are” through thought-provoking sessions and activities with the support of USC students, but they also learn how to effectively present themselves to universities. Students will be equipped with the tools and guidance needed to compose a personal statement that showcases their uniqueness and character effectively.

*

Specially Designed Student-Centered Sessions with USC Students’ Support

In-class sessions will be conducted in English and led by an instructor with a student-centered learning approach. Outside classroom activities are designed to support the in-class sessions. In most sessions, students will be divided into a small group (5 to 6 students) and one USC student will be assigned to each group as a discussion leader. USC students will provide their critiques (feedback), share their insights, challenge students to think more deeply during the sessions, and support students in communicating their ideas more effectively.

Polish Personal Essays with USC Students’ Feedback

The college application process is one of the most important experiences for students in high school. It is a great opportunity for them to think about their future and how they can approach it. Students will learn a new way of thinking and expressing their thoughts in this program, practical tools that can be used for college applications, and also for their post-college career and future.
